The following trees can produce good fall color in the Bay Area (remember this is not New England). Even in optimum conditions fall color varies from year to year due to evening temperatures and rainfall. Please note that plants lacking sufficient moisture will produce dry brown leaves instead of intense yellows, oranges, and reds. Trees growing in deep shade will often produce poor fall color. The further inland you go the more intense the fall colors.
