Our Book Nook Grows

Illustration

Now is a great time to find garden-related books in our sales area, as our selection is at its fullest. We offer titles on a number of subjects including growing edibles, aquatic plants, and general perennials as well as plant-specific books, books on common pests and diseases and how to best combat them, titles promoting garden wildlife and a few very useful large reference books. We have also recently expanded our California Native Plant book department.

On your next visit you will find such wonderful ‘must haves’ as Golden Gate Gardening by Pam Pierce, Sunset’s Western Garden Book, EBMUD’s Plants and Landscapes for Summer-Dry Climates of the San Francisco Bay Region, and a new favorite of the staff, California Native Plants for the Garden from Cachuma Press.

Also, not to be overlooked, is the selection of periodicals we offer year round. Our monthly titles include Horticulture, Fine Gardening, and Garden Design. The bi-monthly titles offered are Fruit Gardener, Bay Nature, and Natural Home & Garden. Finally, printed quarterly is the avid plant enthusiast’s periodical for over three decades, Pacific Horticulture.

Please take a moment and peruse our book nook. There is sure to be something for everyone.

The Berkeley Hort crew has worked through the winter to revitalize our front landscape. This display garden includes plants from all over the world that can thrive in The Bay Area. We make an effort to acknowledge the landscape variations available to our customers by using a range of landscaping styles while integrating plants that work together to create a healthy living system.

You have expressed a continued interest in responsible plant selection, and so, we are promoting plants of ornamental interest that also contribute to the local environment. As a result, we are expanding our California Native Plant section, while increasing their usage in our display gardens. The soil, fertilizer and plants that are used in the front display garden are all products that we offer for sale. We consider it a living example of the horticultural goals we share with customers at our sales counter. Be sure to take a look at the newly renovated front landscape and expanded California Native section the next time you visit.
