By the time this bulletin reaches you in early March the 8th edition of the Western Garden Book should already have been on our store shelves for two weeks or so. While not likely to make the NY Times bestseller list, this new edition of the "Sunset encyclopedia" should be very popular with gardeners in the Bay Area and throughout the west who have appreciated its succinct plant descriptions and gardening advice since the 1930s. The most significant changes in this version are the addition of about 500 new plant descriptions and many new color photographs. Most local gardeners already own at least one of the previous seven editions of the Sunset book and would agree that, while it's not quite the Good Book, this horticultural bible is indeed indispensable.
